How to convert hourly pay to an annual salary
Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work each week, then by the paid weeks in a year. At $25 an hour, 40 hours a week and 52 weeks, that's $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 a year. The calculator does the math instantly and lists the equivalent daily, weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly and monthly pay.
Switch to the Annual → Hourly tab to go the other way: enter a salary and your usual hours to see the hourly rate it works out to.
Full-time hours and paid time off
A standard full-time year is 2,080 hours (40 hours × 52 weeks). If you take unpaid time off, reduce the "paid weeks per year" field. If your time off is paid, keep it at 52 — paid vacation and holidays are still part of your annual pay.
Tips for comparing job offers
- Compare on the same hours. A salaried job that expects 45-hour weeks pays less per hour than the same salary at 40 hours.
- Count benefits. Health insurance, retirement match and paid time off add real value to a salary that an hourly rate may not include.
- Remember these are gross figures. Use the salary-after-tax calculator to see what you'd actually take home.
- Include overtime separately. Overtime pay is usually 1.5× your rate and isn't part of a baseline annual figure.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert hourly to annual salary?
Multiply your hourly rate by hours per week and by paid weeks per year. For a full-time schedule that's hourly rate × 40 × 52, or simply hourly rate × 2,080.
How much is $20 an hour per year?
At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, $20 an hour is $41,600 a year before taxes, or about $3,467 a month.
How do I convert an annual salary to an hourly rate?
Divide the annual salary by the hours you work in a year — 2,080 for a standard full-time schedule. Use the Annual → Hourly tab to do it with your own hours.
Is this before or after taxes?
Before. All amounts are gross pay. Use a salary-after-tax or paycheck calculator to estimate take-home pay.
Why is monthly pay annual divided by 12?
Monthly and semi-monthly amounts spread the annual total evenly across 12 or 24 pay periods. Bi-weekly pay is two weeks of hourly pay, which is why a bi-weekly schedule produces 26 checks a year rather than 24.
