Export a PDF as an editable Word document

What this tool does

  • Real .docx output — a proper Office Open XML file that Word, LibreOffice, Pages and Google Docs all open natively
  • Structure preserved — headings become Word heading styles, lists become Word lists, tables become Word tables
  • Relative type sizes kept — so the document's hierarchy survives the trip
  • Page breaks respected — optional, so the document opens laid out as it was
  • Fully editable — the output is flowing text you can rewrite, not a page of images in a Word wrapper

The honest caveat about PDF to Word

No converter is perfect, and anything claiming otherwise is selling something. A PDF describes where ink goes on a page; a Word document describes a document that reflows. Going backwards means reconstructing intent from coordinates — so a plain report or contract converts beautifully, while a magazine layout with floating sidebars, multiple columns and text wrapped around images will need tidying up.

What you get here is the text, in the right order, with headings, lists, tables and emphasis intact: a document you can edit, rather than a pixel-perfect clone you cannot. Most free online converters produce the same class of result — they just upload your file to do it.

Why convert

  • You need to edit a contract or report and no longer have the source file
  • You want to reuse a few pages of a long PDF in a new document
  • A form has to be submitted as a Word file
  • You need to run tracked changes over text that only exists as a PDF

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDFs uploaded anywhere?

No — the file is opened and rewritten entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so your document never leaves your device.

Is the result a real Word file?

Yes — a valid .docx (Office Open XML) built in the browser, not an HTML file renamed. Word opens it without a compatibility warning.

Will the layout look exactly like the PDF?

No — and that is the trade-off for getting editable text. Headings, lists and tables are preserved; complex multi-column page design is flattened into a single flowing column, and character-level styling such as bold runs is not recovered, because a PDF does not record it in a way that can be read back reliably.

Does it work on scanned PDFs?

Not directly — there is no text to extract. Run OCR PDF first, then convert the searchable PDF it produces.

Are images included?

Not in this version; the text, structure and tables are converted. Extract pictures separately with PDF to Images.

Can I convert just some pages?

Yes — set a page range before converting.
