What this tool does
- Nine positions — any corner, or centred in the header or footer
- Number formats —
7,Page 7,7 of 24orPage 7 of 24 - Start anywhere — begin counting at any number, so a chapter PDF can continue from page 48
- Skip pages — restrict numbering to a page range, leaving a cover or title page clean
- Font control — Helvetica, Times or Courier, with size, colour and margin
- Live preview — see the stamp on a real page before you commit
Why add page numbers
- You merged several documents and the numbering restarted in the middle
- A contract or submission has to be paginated so clauses can be cited
- A printed handout needs numbers so a stack can be put back in order
- A scanned document has no numbers at all
Numbers are drawn as real text
Each number is written into the page's content stream using a standard PDF font, not pasted on as an image. That means the stamp is crisp at any zoom level, prints at full printer resolution, stays searchable, and adds only a few bytes per page. The rest of the page is untouched.
Frequently asked questions
Are my PDFs uploaded anywhere?
No — the file is opened and rewritten entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so your document never leaves your device.
Can I leave the cover page unnumbered?
Yes — set the page range to start at 2. You can also set the starting number to 1 so the second sheet is still labelled “1”.
Can I use “Page 3 of 12”?
Yes — pick the Page N of M format. M is the total number of pages in the file, so it stays correct even if you only number a subset.
Will the number overlap existing content?
It can, if your page already has a footer. Use the margin field to push the number further into the margin, or choose a different position — the live preview shows the result before you download.
Can I number several PDFs at once?
Yes — add multiple files and each is numbered independently with the same settings; several files download as a ZIP.
