Unlock PDF

Remove a password or restriction from a PDF you have the right to open

What this tool does

  • Removes the open password — enter the password you already have and download a copy that no longer asks for one
  • Clears restrictions — lifts owner-password limits on printing, copying text and annotating
  • Keeps the document intact — pages, text, fonts and form fields are copied across unchanged
  • Batch — unlock several files that share a password in one go

This is not a password cracker

You need the password. This tool decrypts a file you can already open and writes out an unencrypted copy — it does not guess, brute-force or bypass an unknown password, and there is no way for it to do so against AES-256. If you have lost the password to a document, this tool cannot help you.

Only unlock documents you own or are authorised to use. Removing protection from someone else's confidential or copyrighted file is very likely a breach of their terms, and may be illegal where you live.

Why unlock a PDF

  • You no longer need a password on an archived statement and are tired of typing it
  • A supplier sent a restricted invoice you cannot print or copy a figure out of
  • A protected file will not open in the e-reader, scanner or accounting tool you need to feed it to
  • You want to merge or annotate a document that refuses edits

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDFs or passwords uploaded anywhere?

No — decryption happens in your browser. Neither the file nor the password is sent to a server.

Can it unlock a PDF without the password?

No. If the document has an open password you must supply it. Files that only carry owner-password restrictions — which block printing or copying but open without a prompt — can be cleared without typing anything.

Is this legal?

Removing protection from your own documents, or ones you are authorised to use, is fine. Stripping protection from material you have no right to is not — that is on you, not the tool.

Does unlocking change the document?

No. Pages, text, images, fonts, annotations and form fields are preserved; only the encryption and permission flags are dropped.

Why does it say the password is wrong when I am sure it is right?

PDF passwords are case-sensitive and some readers store them with trailing spaces. Also check you are not confusing the owner password with the open password — either will decrypt the file here.
